SF Bay Classical Guitar Adult Competition Rules

REGISTRATION IS NOW FULL and we cannot accept any more Adult Competitors for our 2016 Competition. Please go to our home page and order tickets for the Lily Afshar concert!

• Only 12 adult competitors will be admitted to the adult competition so be sure to register early!
• $50 Non-Refundable Adult Registration Fee
• Open to guitarists ages 19 or older
• Competition is for performance on six string Classical Guitar
• Free choice program, one round
• Time limit: 7 minutes
• Prizes: 1st place - $250, 2nd place - $150, 3rd place - $100
• Competitors will be evaluated on technique, musicianship, and overall presentation.
• Competitors may inquire for comments by judges only after the competition has ended. Upon such requests, sharing comments with performers is at the sole discretion of the judges.
• Choice of music is entirely up to the performer. It is expected that every competitor's choice of music fits within the allotted time. If a competitor exceeds the given time allotted, he or she will be asked to stop with no penalty to his or her evaluation.
• All judges decisions are final.

• Only 12 spaces are available for youth competitors so be sure to register early!
• $50 Non-Refundable Youth Registration Fee
• The youth divisions are open to performers 18 years old or younger as of the first day of the competition.
• Competition is for performance on six string Classical Guitar
• Free choice program, one round
• Time limits:
Youth Division I (ages 15-18) - Seven minutes
Youth Division II (ages 14 and under) - Five minutes
• Competitors will be evaluated on technique, musicianship, and overall presentation.

Lily Afshar is a virtuosa who brings passion to her performance. Her unique life story finds expression in her art. She is the only classical guitarist in the world who blends excellent formal training in the United States and Europe with the rich cultural heritage of Persia to bring audiences an extraordinary musical experience. The first woman to receive a doctoral degree in Classical Guitar, Lily Afshar directs the Classical guitar program at the University of Memphis.
